The Bethlehem Monks’ Community is made up of three monasteries with a central government.
The General Chapter is the supreme governing body of all the Brothers. It meets every three years. It elects the Prior General. The latter is responsible for the government of the Community between two General Chapters. He is assisted by a Council, called the Permanent Council, made up of five brothers.
The current Prior General is called Brother Jean-Baptiste. His advisors are Brother Louis-Marie (1st assistant), Brother Jérôme (2d assistant), Brother Matthieu and Brother Marek.
Fr. Cesare Falletti, O.Cist. was appointed Apostolic Assistant by the Congregation for Religious on 28 April 2017.
The canonical visitations of the monasteries prepare the General Chapters and keep alive fidelity to the charism in the various monasteries. In this way, they serve the unity of the community of monks.
The service of authority in each local community is provided by a prior, elected for three years. He is assisted by a council of four monks.
All the perpetually professed brothers of the monastery together constitute the Community Chapter. It is convened regularly by the prior. It is a forum for mutual listening, discernment and consultation, and is called upon to vote on certain decisions for the progress of the community, in fidelity to the orientations of the General Chapter.
