22 august 1951

Monsignor Lamy, Archbishop of Sens (Yonne; France), erected the community into a Pia Unio, for one year.

11 november 1951

The Master General of the Dominican Order, Father Suarez, confirmed the approval of the Fraternity erected as a Pia Unio by Monsignor Lamy. Letter from Father Suarez.

22 august 1952

Pia Unio 1952, Monsignor Lamy canonically erects the group as a Pia Unio under the name of “Fraternity of Our Lady of the Nativity”. On the same day, it was also erected into a Fraternity of the Third Order of Preachers by Father Albert-Marie Avril, Provincial of France of the Dominican Order.

16 juillet 1955

Monsignor Renard, Bishop of Versailles (Yvelines; France), erects the community of “Notre-Dame de la Nativité” as a Pious Union and approves its statutes.

24 july 1958

Monseigneur Renard, Bishop of Versailles (Yvelines; France) renews the erection of the community of the “Petites sœurs dominicaines de Notre-Dame Bethléem” as a Pious Union.

22 august 1970

Monsignor Bontems, Archbishop of Chambery (Savoy; France), erects the community of the “Petites sœurs de la Fraternité de Bethléem” into a Pious Association.

6 october 1976

On the feast of St. Bruno, the first brothers of Bethlehem received the monastic habit from Monsignor Bontems, Archbishop of Chambéry.  They settled in the monastery of Currière-en-Chartreuse (Isère; France).

6 october 1977

Monsignor Matagrin, Bishop of Grenoble, erects the Pious Monastic Union of the Brothers of Bethlehem..

24 june 1986

the branch of nuns was erected into a diocesan Institute of Religious Life by Bishop Matagrin of Grenoble (Isère; France) under the name of the “Sisters of Bethlehem and the Assumption of the Virgin”.

2 february 1987

Bishop Matagrin established the Brothers of Bethlehem and of the Assumption of the Virgin as a Public Association of the faithful, of a monastic character.

15 august 1989

Monsignor Antonelli, Archbishop of Perugia (Italy), confirms the approval of the Brothers of Bethlehem and of the Assumption of the Virgin as a Public Association of the faithful, monastic in character, for the Diocese of Perugia (Italy).

25 march 1992

The monks’ branch is erected into a diocesan Institute of Religious Life by Monsignor Antonelli, Archbishop of Perugia (Italy).

6 october 1998

The Monastic Family of Bethlehem, of the Assumption of the Virgin, and of St. Bruno was erected into a religious institute of pontifical right in its two branches of monks and nuns, by a decree approved by His Holiness Pope John Paul II. The monk branch is clerical.
